“My Ph.D. journey in Mass Communication at Somaiya Vidyavihar University has been one of the most enriching phases of my academic life. From the very beginning of the coursework to the successful completion of my thesis, the university provided a stimulating and supportive environment for research and learning.

The structured coursework laid a strong foundation for my research by enhancing my understanding of research methodologies, academic writing, and contemporary developments in the field of communication and media studies. Throughout the programme, I was encouraged to actively participate in scholarly discussions and present my work at the Annual Research Meet. These opportunities strengthened my confidence as a researcher and helped refine my ideas through valuable academic feedback.

Having completed both my Bachelor's in Mass Media and Master's in Mass Communication and Journalism at Somaiya, I spent five wonderful years as a student here, and every moment remains close to my heart even today.

Throughout my academic journey, I never felt a communication barrier between myself and my teachers. Today, as I pursue my own journey in education, I realize that this inspiration came directly from the mentors who guided me during my years at Somaiya.

One of the most significant influences on my academic and professional journey was the constant encouragement I received to aim higher. Our professors repeatedly motivated us to appear for the UGC NET and JRF examinations, even though these were beyond the requirements of our curriculum. At the time, I did not fully appreciate the value of their guidance, but after completing my Master's, I followed their advice and successfully qualified for both UGC NET and JRF. This achievement is a reflection of the faith my professors had in their students and their commitment to our future success.

Another aspect that made my learning experience exceptional was the emphasis on practical exposure. From visits to leading media organizations such as ABP News to hands-on experiences with teleprompters and interactions with industry professionals, we were given opportunities that brought classroom learning to life. These experiences helped bridge the gap between theory and practice and prepared us for the professional world.

As a Class Representative, I also had the opportunity to closely observe the student-faculty relationship at Somaiya. What stood out most was that every student mattered. The professors were equally invested in the growth and well-being of each individual, ensuring that everyone received guidance and support.

Even years after graduation, the bond remains unchanged. I am confident that if I reach out to any of my professors today, they will be just as willing to guide and support me as they were during my student days. That enduring connection is a testament to the culture of care and mentorship that defines Somaiya.

If someone were to ask me which phase of my life I would like to revisit, my answer would undoubtedly be my years at Somaiya. The university not only provided me with academic knowledge and professional exposure but also shaped my values, aspirations, and career path. We've had amazing professors like Professor Fizza Khan and Professor Vidhi Kodia, who have been a constant source of support and guidance throughout my journey. The coursework has been well-structured and engaging, making the learning experience meaningful and enjoyable. Some of the most valuable parts of my journey have been the opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. Working on a research paper and presenting it at an international conference with my Professor Ms. Fizza Khan gave me hands-on exposure to the process and made me genuinely enjoy research. Organizing our Psychology Fest taught me skills no textbook ever could, and I'm truly grateful for that. When I first joined, I was a very different person but the experiences and opportunities here have helped me grow immensely, and I'm incredibly grateful to my professors and the college for shaping who I am today.”

“ज्ञानादेव तु कैवल्यम्” — Knowledge Alone Liberates. When I first joined Somaiya, I didn't fully understand this motto. But over the past three years, I have truly experienced its meaning.

From working on multiple research projects, including presenting one at a national conference, to being an active member of Psychcen, the Psychology Club, every opportunity has helped me learn and grow. The constant guidance and support of our Psychology Department Head Ms. Fizza Khan and faculty member Ms. Vidhi Kodia, has encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and build confidence in myself.

What I love most about Somaiya is its vibrant campus life. There is always something happening, events, workshops, clubs, and opportunities to explore new interests.

Looking back, I can confidently say that the person who joined Somaiya is very different from the person I am today. I have become more confident, independent, and fearless. For that, I will always be grateful.”

Pursuing my M.A. in China Studies at Somaiya Vidyavihar University has been a truly enriching experience. Overall, my journey in the M.A. in China Studies program at Somaiya Vidyavihar University has been intellectually stimulating, personally rewarding, and instrumental in shaping my future career aspirations.

I am currently a second-year Master's student in China Studies at Somaiya Vidyavihar University. Recently, I received a Chinese Government Scholarship to study at Yunnan University in China for one year. This achievement would not have been possible without the support and guidance I received from my teachers and the department.

My experience at Somaiya Vidyavihar University has been very positive. The faculty members are friendly, approachable, and always ready to help students. They encourage us to learn, ask questions, and explore new opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.

The department regularly organises seminars, workshops, and guest lectures that help us learn about China from different perspectives. We also celebrate events such as International Chinese Language Day and Chinese New Year, which make learning more enjoyable and help us understand Chinese culture better.

The China Studies program has helped me improve my language skills, research abilities, and confidence. It has opened many opportunities for my academic growth, and I am grateful to Somaiya Vidyavihar University for providing such a supportive and enriching learning Environment.

If you see me today as someone confident and proactive, I owe that transformation to my time at Somaiya. I used to be the person who stood in the background and watched others lead. However, my two years as an MAEMA student here changed everything.
